recipe: spicy yakiudon
Thanks to the new Asian supermarket opening, I was inspired to make Spicy Yakiudon recently! It's actually quite similar to making yakisoba.

(Note: There seems to be a 5 attachment limit per post, which is just as well really, since I had a bunch of pics I was planning on attaching XD)

1) Collect ingredients:
  • meat -- In this case I used steak.
  • onions, diced
  • cabbage, shredded
  • mushrooms, diced
  • bell pepper, diced
  • carrot, diced
  • yakisoba sauce (this can be purchased at Asian Supermarket Corp or Kim's)
  • rooster sauce
  • udon

2) Prepare meat (this is how I'd do steak -- chicken I might do differently):
  • Sear on both sides.
  • Slice thinly, diagonally.

3) Heat olive oil in a frying pan using high heat.
4) Add some meat (if you're feeding more than 1 person, you'll want to make this in batches). Reduce heat to med-high.
5) Brown.
6) Add cabbage, mushrooms.
7) Let sit until mushrooms are browned, stirring occassionally.

8) Create a well in the middle of the pan.
9) Add some water to the well.
10) Add udon to the well.
11) Apply yakisoba sauce, rooster sauce on top of the udon.

12) Stir up the udon with the sauces and water.
13) Cover and let cook for a couple minutes.
14) Mix the entire pan contents.
15) Cover and let cook for a couple minutes.
16) Add carrots, peppers, onions.

17) Cover and let cook for a couple minutes.
18) Stir.
19) Cover and let cook for a couple minutes.


For additional flavoring, try adding any combination of the following:
  • Tonkatsu sauce
  • Kewpie mayo
  • Kizami nori (shredded seaweed)

I guess it's a little confusing... Hopefully the pictures helped.
It's unclear to me how I know when each step is cooked enough -- I might add more photos as some point to clarify.
