S.O.S Gamers and Polytech present Gaming Charitably: 4/17/10
S.O.S Gamers and Polytech present Gaming Charitably: A Fundraiser for the March of Dimes Foundation.
March of Dimes Foundation Website http://www.MarchOfDimes.com Hey everyone. It’s your neighborhood smasher Wes. I would like to announce to everyone that a few members from Deadly Alliance got together and formed a Not-for-Profit Organization called "S.O.S Gamers". S.O.S Gamers consists of 5 members that came from Deadly Alliance (Kubuu, Wes, Rafa, Compton and Cavaisa). What we do is host video gaming charity events such as this one that I’m about to present to you and the proceeds from the event go to the charitable cause of our selection. For this event, we have selected the March of Dimes Foundation. The March of Dimes Foundation is an organization dedicated to improving the health of babies by preventing birth defects, premature birth and infant mortality. We will do our best to inform everyone about their mission and the success that their organization has experienced. It is our goal to make this event unlike any other video gaming event any of you have ever attended. So now, I present to everyone the details of the event: VENUE POLYTECHNIC INSTITUTE of NYU ADDRESS Polytechnic Institute of NYU 6 Metrotech Center Brooklyn, NY 11201 DATE April 17th TIME Registration starts at 10 am (doors open) Activities start at 11pm Special Events & Activities Costume contest ( Entry Fee: $5) • For those who like to strut their stuff in their favorite videogame, cartoon and movie characters This is the contest for you. We’ve got a contest that will be enjoyable regardless of whether or not you’re new to gaming or a seasoned veteran. Raffle Prizes • We’re going to have a selection of prizes available for raffle giveaways. You don’t need to play video games to win these (although it wouldn’t hurt!) Live Entertainment • We have very talented and diverse individuals ready to put on a show which includes musical instrument performances, singing and comedy. Yeah, we have it all ;-) Food • Yes, yes and yes, there will indeed be catered food. We only ask that you be very respectful of the environment and refrain from littering. Guest Speakers & Participant Stories • We at S.O.S. Gamers have charged ourselves with not only providing outstanding interactive entertainment, but also with trying to raise awareness of charitable causes and humanitarian efforts. We will take time inform everyone about how our collective support can make a difference in the world. March of Dimes Documentaries (http://www.MarchofDimes.com) • The March of Dimes Foundation is an organization dedicated to improving the health of babies by preventing birth defects, premature birth and infant mortality. We will do our best to inform everyone about their mission and the success that their organization has experienced. Casual Play Area • While many of us are all-stars at the games that we play, there are many people who are just getting into gaming or might be curious about games and would want to know more. As such, we will have areas dedicated to casual play, so that individuals can enjoy learning these games at a relaxing pace. Live streaming for Melee and Brawl • Stream away we will! We will attempt to stream and record as many matches as we possibly can for those who will be unable to attend our event. Finals for Beatles Rockband will be played on main stage • Don’t be shy! We’re hoping that our finalists for Rockband: Beatles Edition will put on a show for us, so it’s straight to center stage. List of Casual Games Mario Kart Wii Wii Sports Resort Mario and Sonic at the Winter Olympics Wii Fit Plus Select “Classic” 8-Bit Games via Virtual Console Beatles Rockband Additionally, please let us know if you believe a game would make for a great casual playing experience so that we may add it to our roster of games for future events. TV: 8 Wii: TBA SPECIAL REQUEST If there are any individuals who were born prematurely and feel comfortable with letting the rest of the community know, please contact us. We would like to create a photo wall that will have photos of gamers who were born prematurely. This event is all about bringing awareness to this cause and those that it supports, so if you have a personal story or history you would like to share please let us know. If you feel comfortable with having your picture up on the wall, please email Wes at legendarywes@aol.com or email our organization at SOSGamersInc@gmail.com. Please do this only if you feel comfortable with what we are asking of you. Thank you! TOURNAMENTS Super Smash Bros. Brawl 64-man 1v1[/size] [/u] (Tournament will be capped at 64 Entrants due to time restrictions and room capacity limits.) Entry fee $15 venue $10 Tournament fee (fee for each tournament you plan on entering) Prizes Top 3 will be rewarded in each tournament. (Guaranteed, no matter how many people show up) Top 3 Prize Description First Place Prize: $300 Visa Gift Card Second Place Prize: $100 Visa Gift Card Third Place Prize: $50 Visa Gift Card Brawl rules 3 stock 8 minute timer Items are set to 'off' and 'none' All sets are best of three, except winners finals, losers finals, and grand finals sets, which are best of 5 Controller ports are decided by coin flip, both parties should inspect the coin before the flip takes place. No player may choose a stage they have already won on in that set unless agreed upon. In team matches, the ports will be determined in a 1221 fashion; whoever wins the coin flip will choose first, then the opposing team will get their ports, and then the teammate of the coin flip winner will get the last port. If the timer runs out, the victor is determined first by stock and then by percentage. Metaknight's Infinite Cape glitch is banned. That means this can't even be used to avoid invincibility at the beginning of the stock (to avoid confusion). DDD's standing chaingrabs are banned. DDD MUST do a dash inbetween chaingrabs, thus no walking/nudging chaingrabs are allowed either. DDD's are allowed to chaingrab against a wall, as all walled stages that are on have only temporary walls. You are responsible for your own controller and name tag. Any malfunctions or errors that occur are your responsibility, so bring an extra controller if possible and always check to make sure you're using the correct settings BEFORE a match is played. If a match is to be restarted due to controller functions, it must be agreed upon by both parties. Any action that can prevent the game from continuing (i.e., freezing, disappearing characters, game reset, etc.) will result in a forfeit of that match for the player that initiated the action. You are responsible for knowing your own character, and must be wary about accidentally triggering one of these effects. Stalling is banned, which is defined by: The act of deliberately avoiding any and all conflict so that one may make the game unplayable. Running away from an opponent to reach a better position is not stalling, while doing an infinite grab endlessly against a wall is. Any infinite chain grabs most end quickly after 300% has been reached so as to prevent excessive stalling. NO PLAYER MAY PLANK THE EDGE (stall on the edge with a lead for longer than 10 seconds). If there is a question of this happening, the match is allowed to be paused so a judge can be called over to watch the remainder of the match. Ledge grabbing rules: Each player/Team is allowed up to 50 ledge grabs a match if the player/Team exceeds 50 ledge grabs whether the time runs out or not they lose the match. Beginning of the set: 1. Opponents choose their characters for the first match * 2. Opponents start the stage striking procedure. This will be where a coin is flipped to see who strikes first. Then each player will alternate striking a stage until there is 1 left. That stage is played first round. THERE IS NO RANDOM UNLESS AGREED UPON. 3. Each player may announce one stage to be banned for counterpicks of the set 4. The first game is played, using the stage chosen during step 2 5. The loser of the previous match announces the next match's stage from either the Starter Stage List or the Counter Stage List 6. The winner of the previous match chooses their character 7. The loser of the previous match chooses their character 8. Repeat steps 5-7 for all proceeding matches *Double blind character selection may be called for the first match Stages: Starter Battlefield Final Destination Smashville Yoshi's Island Lylat Cruise Counterpick Castle Siege Delfino Plaza Halberd Pokemon Stadium 1 Brinstar Frigate Orpheon Rainbow Cruise Suicide Rules: If kirby, ganon, wario, ddd are able to end a match in a tie due to their suicide moves, the sudden death is ignored, and the players play 1 stock matches. If bowser suicides someone off the stage, the match is awarded to bowser (due to conflicting controller port issues). The Mages DQ rule: After a match has been called, if a player is two minutes late he will receive a warning. At 4 minutes late, he will be given a loss for the first game of the set. After six minutes, he will be given a loss of the entire set. Color Blind rule: Should a player have a color-based disability, he or she may request in a teams match to have a specific color for their team. This is so characters such as Lucario or Sonic can be granted the blue team so that there is not unnecessary confusion. Wiimotes and Classic Controller users should know to take the batteries out of their controllers after finishing a set; not only will this save battery life, but it prevents accidental interference and delay for tournament matches (please, if at all possible, avoid using these during the tournament). TVS: 8 Wiis: 8 Super Smash Bros. Melee 64-Entrant 1v1 Tournament will be capped at 64 Entrants due to time restrictions and room capacity limits. Entry fee $15 venue $10 Tournament fee per person Prizes Top 3 will be rewarded (Guaranteed, no matter how many people show up) Top 3 Prize description First Place Prize: $300 Visa Gift Card Second Place Prize: $100 Visa Gift Card Third Place Prize: $50 Visa Gift Card Melee rules Neutrals 1v1: FD Yoshis Dreamland Battlefield Fountain of Dreams Neutrals 2v2: FD Yoshis Dreamland Battlefield Pokemon Stadium Counterpicks 1v1: Kongo Jungle Brinstar Rainbow Cruise Pokemon Stadium Counterpicks 2v2: Kongo Jungle Brinstar Rainbow Cruise Stage Striking will be in effect for the first match of the set. The player with the lower port will get to choose the first strike. Loser chooses ban before next match. One ban, per player, per set. To be chosen after loss. Modified DSR: You cannot go back to the last stage you won in a set, unless agreed upon by the other player. The player choice clause!: If both players agree to a rule outside of my ruleset, feel free to play by that. If one player wants to counterpick Mute City and the other player is fine with that because they think it's a fair stage, then that is more than fine. However in the event the two players disagree, house rules stand.
