"Hey all, hope you're having a good year.

Eboarders, please forward this on to the general membership and others
you know as you see fit.

Otakon 2010 will be happening from July 30 to August 1, and usual, I am
organizing a "CJAS and Friends" hotel room block.

This year, I have rooms booked at the Sheraton Inner Harbor.

Starting 2007, we took over the Otakon gameshow, and will be
continuing with that in 2010. Videos of the 2009 game show are at:

http://www.viddler.com/explore/confucious/videos/5/
http://www.viddler.com/explore/confucious/videos/3/

If you're interested in going to Otakon and staying with us,
please send me an e-mail. There is no-obligation, so even if you are
still unsure but are considering it, let me know so that I can keep
you in the loop regarding future developments.

If, for some reason, I get so many responses that I don't have enough
space to handle the worst-case scenario, I will send an e-mail out
with more information, but that has never happened in the
past. Historically, I've never had to turn anyone away who asked for
space.

Generally speaking, we go 6 people to a room, with a cost of around
$80-$100 per person for the whole weekend. Thursday nights may be
extra. There will be a online web system for picking what room to go
into so that you can decide who your roommates will be. If you're
interested in seeing how things have gone in past years, the mailing
list archives are at: http://www.cjas.org/pipermail/otakon/

This offer is also extended to non-cjas friends you may know. So feel
free to pass this information along. When e-mailing me, please include
your real name if it's not indicated in your e-mail address.

Third Place Prize: $50 Visa Gift Card

Brawl rules

3 stock

8 minute timer

Items are set to 'off' and 'none'

All sets are best of three, except winners finals, losers finals, and grand
finals sets, which are best of 5

Controller ports are decided by coin flip, both parties should inspect the
coin before the flip takes place.

No player may choose a stage they have already won on in that set unless
agreed upon.

In team matches, the ports will be determined in a 1221 fashion; whoever wins
the coin flip will choose first, then the opposing team will get their ports,
and then the teammate of the coin flip winner will get the last port.

If the timer runs out, the victor is determined first by stock and then by
percentage.

Metaknight's Infinite Cape glitch is banned. That means this can't even be
used to avoid invincibility at the beginning of the stock (to avoid
confusion).

DDD's standing chaingrabs are banned. DDD MUST do a dash inbetween chaingrabs, thus no walking/nudging chaingrabs are allowed either. DDD's are allowed to chaingrab against a wall, as all walled stages that are on have
only temporary walls.

You are responsible for your own controller and name tag. Any malfunctions or
errors that occur are your responsibility, so bring an extra controller if
possible and always check to make sure you're using the correct settings
BEFORE a match is played. If a match is to be restarted due to controller
functions, it must be agreed upon by both parties.

Any action that can prevent the game from continuing (i.e., freezing,
disappearing characters, game reset, etc.) will result in a forfeit of that
match for the player that initiated the action. You are responsible for
knowing your own character, and must be wary about accidentally triggering
one of these effects.

Stalling is banned, which is defined by: The act of deliberately avoiding any
and all conflict so that one may make the game unplayable. Running away from
an opponent to reach a better position is not stalling, while doing an
infinite grab endlessly against a wall is. Any infinite chain grabs most end
quickly after 300% has been reached so as to prevent excessive stalling. NO PLAYER MAY PLANK THE EDGE (stall on the edge with a lead for longer than 10 seconds). If there is a question of this happening, the match is allowed to be paused so a judge can be called over to watch the remainder of the match.

Ledge grabbing rules: Each player/Team is allowed up to 50 ledge grabs a match if the player/Team exceeds 50 ledge grabs whether the time runs out or not they lose the match.

Beginning of the set:
1. Opponents choose their characters for the first match *
2. Opponents start the stage striking procedure. This will be where
a coin is flipped to see who strikes first. Then each player will alternate striking a
stage until there is 1 left. That stage is played first round. THERE IS NO RANDOM
UNLESS AGREED UPON.
3. Each player may announce one stage to be banned for counterpicks of the
set
4. The first game is played, using the stage chosen during step 2
5. The loser of the previous match announces the next match's stage from
either the Starter Stage List or the Counter Stage List
6. The winner of the previous match chooses their character
7. The loser of the previous match chooses their character
8. Repeat steps 5-7 for all proceeding matches
*Double blind character selection may be called for the first match

Stages:

Starter

Battlefield
Final Destination
Smashville
Yoshi's Island
Lylat Cruise

Counterpick

Castle Siege
Delfino Plaza
Halberd
Pokemon Stadium 1
Brinstar
Frigate Orpheon
Rainbow Cruise

Suicide Rules:

If kirby, ganon, wario, ddd are able to end a match in a tie due to their
suicide moves, the sudden death is ignored, and the players play 1 stock
matches. If bowser suicides someone off the stage, the match is awarded to
bowser (due to conflicting controller port issues).

The Mages DQ rule: After a match has been called, if a player is two minutes
late he will receive a warning. At 4 minutes late, he will be given a loss
for the first game of the set. After six minutes, he will be given a loss of
the entire set.

Color Blind rule: Should a player have a color-based disability, he or she
may request in a teams match to have a specific color for their team. This is
so characters such as Lucario or Sonic can be granted the blue team so that
there is not unnecessary confusion.

Wiimotes and Classic Controller users should know to take the batteries out
of their controllers after finishing a set; not only will this save battery
life, but it prevents accidental interference and delay for tournament
matches (please, if at all possible, avoid using these during the
tournament).
Stage Striking will be in effect for the first match of the set. The player with the lower port will get to choose the first strike. Loser chooses ban before next match.

One ban, per player, per set. To be chosen after loss.

Modified DSR: You cannot go back to the last stage you won in a set, unless agreed upon by the other player.

The player choice clause!: If both players agree to a rule outside of my ruleset, feel free to play by that. If one player wants to counterpick Mute City and the other player is fine with that because they think it's a fair stage, then that is more than fine. However in the event the two players disagree, house rules stand.
Casual Play Area
• While many of us are all-stars at the games that we play, there are many people who are just getting into gaming or might be curious about games and would want to know more. As such, we will have areas dedicated to casual play, so that individuals can enjoy learning these games at a relaxing pace.

Live streaming for Melee and Brawl
• Stream away we will! We will attempt to stream and record as many matches as we possibly can for those who will be unable to attend our event.

Finals for Beatles Rockband will be played on main stage
• Don’t be shy! We’re hoping that our finalists for Rockband: Beatles Edition will put on a show for us, so it’s straight to center stage.
SPECIAL REQUEST
If there are any individuals who were born prematurely and feel comfortable with letting the rest of the community know, please contact us. We would like to create a photo wall that will have photos of gamers who were born prematurely. This event is all about bringing awareness to this cause and those that it supports, so if you have a personal story or history you would like to share please let us know. If you feel comfortable with having your picture up on the wall, please email Wes at legendarywes@aol.com or email our organization at SOSGamersInc@gmail.com. Please do this only if you feel comfortable with what we are asking of you. Thank
you!
$15 venue
$10 Tournament fee (fee for each tournament you plan on entering)

Prizes
Top 3 will be rewarded in each tournament. (Guaranteed, no matter how many people show up)

Top 3 Prize Description
First Place Prize: $300 Visa Gift Card
Second Place Prize: $100 Visa Gift Card

Hi everyone,
Albany Comic Con will be happening once again on Sunday, April 25th! It will be held at the Holiday Inn on Wolf Road from 10am-5pm. Admission is only $3 and the con is packed with great industry guests and tons of shopping!

UNY was kindly offered a free (yes, free!) table for the event. I'm hoping we'll have a date for the picnic by then so we can advertise and take discounted pre-registrations. We do have some kitty hats left over, but I'm thinking about holding yet another workshop to make a few more. If anyone has any other ideas for items to sell at the convention, please feel free to post.

Thanks!
"Hi there, everyone! Stephen, your friendly Genericon Gaming Coordinator,
here. So, we're almost back to school, and I know what's on all your
minds; bringing me lots and lots of video game stuff!!!!!

Right?

Well, just in case it's not, here's a friendly reminder: BRING ME STUFF.
We'll take anything; consoles, games, controllers, TVs (especially
TV's).
What I'm especially looking for is stuff for the following games; Rock
Band, BlazBlue, Street Fighter 4, Gears of War 2, Halo 3, Super Smash
Bros; Melee, and Brawl. That means games and consoles (with stuff
unlocked, if the console has memory.) For consoles that don't, if you
would be willing to loan me your memory cards (me, personally, they will
only be used for the tournaments needed), I would be appreciative.

If you're bringing me stuff for the tournaments listed above, I would
appreciate an E-Mail telling me so, so I know if I need to rent
anything.
If you're just bringing your collection, you don't have to E-Mail me,
just bring it! I'll see you all soon, and remember: (Only three weeks
and
two days until Genericon!!!!!)

Hey Guys~

So, for the first time, well, possibly in 10 years(!), I plan to create a costume! I know nothing about sewing, so this will be interesting >.>

I will be using my real hair and cosplaying as Xellos at Genericon. I'm wondering if anyone would be interested in joining as a Slayers cosplayer?

Here's my listing so far:
-dj - xellos
-tomtom - rezo
-hershey - vrumugan
-stacy - amelia
-kathy - lina(?)
-frank - ???
-??? - gourry
-??? - ???

(Please keep in mind that since I will be running sound at Cosplay Chess, I won't be able to be a piece for that event.)

Anyone want to talk about their plans for cosplay chess? I decided to take everything and put it into one coherent thread. I think I may also be putting up the piece positions as we get people signing up, so people will have a better idea of what to plan for.

As for myself, I have only tentatively penciled myself in, in case we have a gap anywhere on the board. If I have to play black, I'll probably go as Marluxia, since I will have a finished weapon by then, or Yami Bakura from Yu-gi-oh if we wind up getting a Marluxia. and if White... I haven't put that much thought into it. I'm going to be Silk Spectre for the Masq, but I might be America, since I know there's someone who wants to go as France.

Hi all,
This Genericon, I will be helping run a Nerf-based zombie LARP. It will run for one hour on Saturday (2/13) at midnight. Registration is currently open on the Genericon website to reserve your slot.

In addition to players, we're also going to need zombies! If anyone is willing to volunteer to portray our lovely undead, please let me know in this thread. We are looking for 8 zombies total, with each zombie working a 30-minute shift. The GM's will supply drinks and snacks for the zombies if they need it. This allows them to participate in the game if they'd like (be sure to register if this is the case). Please note that zombies will have Nerf darts shot at their bodies (not heads), and will be required to "die" by lying on the ground. In addition, they behave more like slow, traditional undead.

Lastly, prior to the game's start, zombies will be briefed exactly how the game will run at the play area. This thread will also be updated once the rules are written up.

Thanks so much!
