I'm looking to plan the Cosplay Chess event for Genericon this year, and I'd like to get a feel for what people would like to see, or if anyone already knows they want to play a particular part in the event.

I'm thinking, as far as planning this goes, is to try to get as many RSVPs as possible, have a sign-up for the event through Sat after the Cosplay contest at the latest, and then have everyone show up an hour or so before the event to get to know one another, get them into places, and run through potential moves and sequences for the matches. The game will have been decided before the match starts, so that way we're not putting pressure on the chess-players to complete the game quickly. The pieces don't necessarily have to know what's going to happen as long as they have an idea about what they're going to be doing, and feel comfortable with a range of different actions, so nothing is a huge surprise to them.

I'd really like to see any kind of fictional character that is already celebrated join in. If anyone is interested in the event now, by all means, bump the thread.
I would love to see this happen. I'm not sure what I'm wearing 100% yet, but you can save a spot for me. ^_^
Awesome -- I'm glad to see the initiative taken!

You'll probably want to talk with Genericon folks (you may have already done so) just to make sure they don't have actual staff already on this task. They have a forum, and they are starting up meetings very soon (pretty much when classes start).

I'd be interested in doing sound for it.
I should be fine, since I'm trying to get karaoke moved to Friday night.

I'm also all for getting the chess club involved in the event.
I can see who the Genericon folks were contacting, if you'd like.
Or, if the chess club doesn't end up helping, I'm interested in helping script it.

I would love to participate in Cosplay Chess! It sounds like so much fun! :awesome:

I'm not sure what I'll be wearing, but probably Black Jack or Vampire Hunter D.
Maybe we could do Team Dark Emos VS Team Sweetness & Light.

Well, so far, I've emailed... Jess Johns, I think it was? Well, I've emailed her, and I'm awaiting a response. If I don't get one by the time school starts, I'm going to hit up the forums directly and ask there.

Also, anyone who could help script would be awesome. I already have one person who's willing to play a game, so if I could get someone to play him, that would be awesome.

That would have been pretty fun~. I decided though, since I think the game would move the most smoothly if the players were semi-scripted, to have some cosplayers I can count on being there be the kings and queens. Since they all have matching Final Fantasy costumes, or can have them done by the con, the theme is going to be Dissidia-esque, with good vs. evil. Characters that are on the fence can choose where they go.

I'm excited that there's some interest! I hope I can make it work this year! If worst comes to worst, I'll gank cosplayers out of the halls on Sunday.
So is this only going to be FF based?

Or just Good vs Evil ?

Good v. Evil.
The last cosplay chess I was in, about half the people the signed up didn't bother to come to the actual event, leaving coordinators to scramble to find people to fill in. I decided then, that if I ever ran one, that I would make certain that I had at least my kings and queens set up. Since the people I've talked to all have Final Fantasy costumes, I made them up to be the kings and queens. I'm going to switch them out if I get other applicants, but for now, these are the people I can count on having in place. I have two FF protagonists, and I have two villians. At the moment, the best I could do for the heroes were Ashe and Balthier from XII, who don't acutally appear in the game. If I could get people who are playing dissidia heroes, I'll sub the others out as other pieces.

Sorry if I wasn't clear before. You can be whatever you want. I encourtage that, even.

Sounds like a plan.
I can ping her too, if you're having trouble.

Well, while having the chess club script a cool game would be fun, it'd be fun to try my hand as well. I'm definitely up for this.
Eric also volunteered to go to the meetings for the Genericon group as well. I'm going to try to go with him whenever possible, so I know we can reach her that way, as well.

If you'd like to help script the game, I'd really appreciate the assistance. I can put you in touch with the other chess player I know and see if he's up for a good game.
