I'm not one much for superhero comics, but I've found some western Graphic novels I utterly adore. The first is American Born Chinese, by Gene Luen Yang and especially Blankets by Craig Thompson. They're autobiographical accounts of the author's lives. Both really different, but so good. And I just love their artistic styles.
