Is anyone into Bento lunches. I regularly follow a thread that posts pictures and recipes for bentos although I'm too chicken to try making any of them myself.

Bentos are great for lots of reasons, they're organized, fun, cute, some are diet friendly because they help with portion sizes, and they taste good! YUM.

The boxes come in all shapes and sizes from laquer boxes, lunch pales, tupperware, thermoses, and really big tiered picnic sets. They ofter have onigiri or boiled eggs in the shape of favorite characters, lots of fruit vegetables sometimes carved in the shape of flowers or bunnies! They don't always have to be cute or pretty. You can also find them at train stations in Japan kind of like pre-made take out type things.

Here is one of my favorite sites that offers how to's and lots of pictures. Lately they've been running contests through Flickr I think. Check it out!

Is that a pun?
Nope! but because you pointed it out I'm highly amused =P
LOL

I'll admit that I make bentou's a lot, but not in the traditional sense.
Basically, I have tons of these small tupperware containers.
So when I make a large meal and have extras, I'll make a "bentou" and bring it to work XD
Traditionally speaking, the closest I may have come would be the onigiri bentou's and curry bentou.

Do you make bentou often?
I'm curious what they look like :o
Not really but I'm obsessed with how pretty an cute some of them are. Plus I love reading the recipes on websites. I enjoy it from an art and cooking persepective, sadly not the eating.
Amber makes bento with little octopus hot dogs and other stuff I can't remember...
I love those and they're super easy to make. You can also buy cutters to make penguins and tulips I think.
I'm so amused that there are implements that can amply be called "hot dog octipussifier"
